Island Excursions
Explore the Archipelago
Day Trips throughout the Islands
Head out in a traditional wooden sailing dhow for a snorkel on the reefs. Swim seasonally with the whale sharks, explore the mangrove channels, walk on remote beaches, and discover interesting villages throughout the Archipelago. Take a swim and enjoy a seafood lunch freshly prepared on board . The food is delicious! The special ingredients are the light wind and the salty air stirred by the rocking boat.
Sunset Sails are always a favorite
Beach Walks
Cross over to Manda Island to explore Ras Kitau beach at low tide. Pass the ruins of a Portuguese look out point, and head around the corner to explore tide pools and unique terrain. Walk down Shella beach and up into the sand dunes which stretch for 12km to Kipungani. Visit Takwa Ruins on a high tide and walk down to the rugged beach below facing the vast Indian Ocean.
Explore Old Town
Visit the Donkey Sanctuary where our working donkeys are cared for. The Lamu Museum and The Fort at Mkunguni offer a glimpse at the past. Visit the wood carvers to witness ancient craftsmanship and the handcraft, clothing and jewelry shops along the way. Isiah's Recycled Art Shop is always intriguing. Take a Town Tour with Mohamed Aweso to wander the back streets and see hidden historical treasures.
